The methodology was created in the 1970’s, where it was originally PROMPT II. The organisation that founded it was called Simpact Systems. It was later improved by the UK government and renamed as PRINCE®. One of the main improvements made to PRINCE was a more distinct management structure. In the late 1990’s, the original PRINCE2® was released, which had some of the outdated components removed from its predecessor. Some of these components are BAC, TAC, and UAC. The latest version of PRINCE2® was released in 2009 by AXELOS. Changes were made to make it more user friendly for organisations such as BBC, Microsoft and NHS.
