There are two universities in Sheffield which are the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. Sheffield Hallam University has over 30,000 students and is based on two sites with one campus being in the city centre and the other being located near the Sheffield railway station. The University of Sheffield received its royal charter in 1905 and has over 27,000 students.
