VMware Infrastructure

The infrastructure of VMware is a virtualization suite that provides essential management, application availability and resources optimisation in an integrated environment. Virtualisation allows the users to virtualize and combines physical hardware resources through various systems. It provides a central data centre in a virtual environment.

Not only this, the VMware Infrastructure permits the users to use a set of distributed services that enables policy-driven resources allocation, fine-grain, consolidated backup ad fine-grain of virtual datacenter. These services help IT organisations to establish and meet their production Service Level Agreements.

VMware Infrastructure includes the following components:

VMware ESX Server- This virtualization layer is a production-driven, and it runs on physical servers that abstract storage, processor, memory, networking resources and other similar things into multiple virtual machines. It has two versions namely: ESX Server 3 and ESX Server 3i.

Virtual Center Server- It is the central point that is widely used to design, establish and manage virtual environments.

VMware Infrastructure Client (VI Client)- It provides an interface for the user to connect remotely to the virtual centre server from any windows.

VMware Infrastructure Web Access (VI Web Access)- It provides the interface that allows virtual machine management as well as distant control access.

VMware Virtual Machine File System (VMFS)- It is a group of a file that gives great performance for ESX Server virtual machines.

VMware Virtual Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP)- A Single machine can use many physical processors on one hardware resource.

VMware VMotion and VMware Storage VMotion- With this one can transfer running virtual machine from one machine to another. This task is completed in zero downtime, complete transaction integrity and continuous service availability.

VMware High Availability (HA)- It provides less costly and easily usable applications that can run on virtual machines. In case of any failure, the services are restarted on other servers that have the same capability as that of the original one.

VMware Distributed Resources Scheduler (DRS)- It assigns and schedules the calculating measurements across the virtual machines on any hardware resources. In this, the power consumption is reduced with the help of datacenter.

VMware Consolidated Backup (Consolidated Backup)- It includes backing up the data from the virtual machine. It lowers the load on ESX servers.

VMware Infrastructure SDK- A standard interface is provided by this feature for VMware or other solutions to access the infrastructure.
